Episode 195—European Defense with the Former President of Estonia Toomas Ilves

The idea of a united Europe is being tested. Russian hybrid attacks, political meddling, and conventional military threats are testing the EU’s ability to defend the continent.

The former President of Estonia (2006-2016) Toomas Hendrik Ilves is my guest today. Toomas also served as the foreign minister of Estonia from 1996-2002 where he negotiated the countries entry into both NATO and the EU, and is currently a visiting professor at the University of Tarty. Today, we look inside Europe—how leaders view Trump, what a Russia–NATO clash could look like, and some uncomfortable truths about Europe’s defenses.
